What is Early Intervention?
Help for developmental needs—right where life happens
Early Intervention is a New York State program designed to support infants and toddlers from birth to age 3 who have developmental delays or disabilities. SLC Therapy of WNY holds a New York State contract to provide Early Intervention therapy services in Erie, Niagara, Wyoming, and Genesee Counties — as well as approval to conduct evaluations to determine eligibility for services
How does Early Intervention Work?
If you have concerns about your child’s development, the first step is a referral to your county’s Early Intervention Program. Your child’s pediatrician can make a referral, or families can self-refer by contacting their county directly. Once a referral is made, your child will be evaluated to determine if they qualify for services. If eligible, an Individualized Family Service Plan (IFSP) is developed with your family to outline the specific services your child will receive.
What to Expect from SLC Therapy
Once SLC Therapy of WNY is selected as your service provider, one of our experienced therapists will be assigned to your family. Services are provided in your child’s natural environment — meaning where they live, play, and spend their time. This may be your home, a family daycare, or another community setting. Our therapists work closely with parents and caregivers, coaching families on how to support their child’s development throughout the day — not just during therapy sessions.
